Yakov Smirnoff, the Russian immigrant who has established himself as one of the most unique and accomplished talents on the planet, offers an unparalleled time of hilarity in Branson. Prepare to laugh yourself silly as a member of his audience. He is the recipient of "Comedian of the Year" award, twice. His popularity has increased to the point that he moved to a larger theater in Branson -- the first one you'll see as you arrive from the north on US 65.
What's in Store:
As his rapid-paced show progresses, you'll be astonished by his skits with "Boris the Horse," "St. Peter," "Romeo and Juliet" and others; you'll enjoy his interpretation of his travels as a United States citizen with a heavy Russian accent. He has perfected the knack of laughing at himself with true humor and this evokes explosions of laughter from everyone within hearing distance. Yakov has made the expression "What a Country" his trademark, and after hearing his comedy, you will definitely have an adrenaline rush of patriotism and you'll want to cheer. No one can point out the blessing of living here as well as a person from another country who has immigrated to the U.S. by choice.
Yakov is backed up by comic juggler, Slim Chance, whose adroit moves and rib-tickling comments are perfect companion pieces to Yakov's humor. The "What A Country Dancers" are splendidly costumed and their intricate, daring acrobatic routines will startle the most seasoned of viewers.
About Yakov:
Born in 1951 in Odessa, Ukraine, Yakov came to the United States in 1977 and was a citizen by 1986. Even as a young fellow, he was considered a chuckle with legs and always found a reason to smile and to make others laugh. He mastered a rapier-sharp wit and the ability to make fun of his heritage and his homeland, but in such a diplomatic way that even some old-time Party Members have been known to conceal a grin after one of his jokes.
His goal to be an entertainer was an early part of his drive. His creative talent seems to know no bounds or show any signs of depleting. He continuously shows his gratitude to his adopted country by his humor and also by partaking in many charitable works, particularly with the Pediatric Aids Foundation, CARE and the U.S. Airlift of food and medicine to Russia.
