The Outdoor Show
This show is based on the book that brought infamy to the Ozark area. Watch as the story comes to life, and you'll even get to participate in a good old fashioned square dance during intermission.
Most people, when they look at The Shepherd of the Hills facility, only think about the legendary drama about Old Matt, Aunt Mollie, and Little Pete. Though this is a very good reason for travelers to make their way off the main 76 Strip and into the mountains, this is not the only reason you should come on up to the "Hills!" There are so many other things going on that include chuckwagons, tours, and crafting. It is an all-encompassing, historical Ozark Mountain experience. Of course, take in the Shepherd of the Hills outdoor drama! Then, you can try some of these other things happening around the farm on a regular and seasonal basis.
Shepherd of the Hills Sightseeing Tour
How about touring the place where the original characters from the book called home? A Homestead Tour will take you throughout the Shepherd of the Hills complex, showing you not only the house, but also the place where the author of the book Harold Bell Wright compiled all of his notes for the story. You'll also get to explore the Morgan Community Church, Inspiration Point, and Jenning's Still. The tour guide will recount tales of what transpired here many years ago and point out the interesting (and camera-worthy!) sights.
Shepherd of the Hills Inspiration Tower
Inspiration Tower is also worth a your time to climb. As the second-highest point in Missouri, you will have the opportunity to stare out on the magnificence of the Ozark Mountains and Branson. Learn about the history of the Tower and how it was constructed. The tower has been the "inspiration" for many engagements, weddings, and other life moments; maybe it can serve that purpose for you, too.
Chuckwagon Shows & Meals
Chuckwagons are infamous for providing more-than-enough food and dazzling entertainment set in the Old West era. The Sons of the Pioneers Chuckwagon Dinner Show meets this standard and more! Be prepared to eat more than you can handle off of tin plates and drink from metal cups. Then laugh hysterically at the tongue-in-cheek performances of the cast. Enjoy the music they produce, too. Everything will seem as if it is right out of the 19th century.
Branson Seasonal Events
There are also some fun seasonal events that take place. Check out the Super Summer Cruise Car Show and see some hot cars during those hot days of the summer. There will be plenty of live entertainment, prizes, and a burn-out contest! In the Fall head out to the Hills for the Ozark Round-Up Cowboy Gathering, which celebrates the Great American Cowboy in several different ways, from food to song. It will feature the Horse Whisperer Dan Roberts and there'll be a good ol' fashioned Camp Meetin' Service. And for the Christmas season, you've got to check out the Christmas on the Trail as the Shepherd of the Hills facility transforms into a holiday wonderland. Take a tour of the Trail of Lights, drink some hot chocolate, sing some Christmas carols, and eat a huge Cowboy Christmas Dinner prepared just for the season.
You can also take Horseback Rides throughout the landscape. You get to ride on horses used in the actual drama and cover some very hidden trails. There are also crafters making authentic Western and Ozark Mountain gifts throughout the facility. Stop in at some of the Gift Shops and take home a memento of your stay. You can find Native American crafts and gifts, knives, clothes, leather, and many more trinkets.
As you can see, there's tons of things to do at Shepherd of the Hills. Come for the incredible drama, stay for all the fun things you can do!
