Outdoor Activities in the Ozarks

Branson is a well-rounded and unique city, bringing you the beauty and recreation of the Ozarks set against the exciting shows and attractions of the city. You won't have to drive far from Branson to enjoy the beauty of serenity of the great outdoors.

Just thirty minutes north of Branson in Springfield sits the Gray/ Campbell Farmstead. This unique home was originally built in the mid 1800s and features a detached log kitchen, a log granary, a family cemetery, and more. You can take a free, guided tour of the property let by a costumed tour guide, exploring the Civil War artifacts and country lifestyle of the family that once lived here. The Gray/ Campbell Farmstead is open on weekends from May through September, and on Sundays only in April and October. This attraction is appropriate for all ages.

Adults and kids alike will love a day at the Dickerson Zoo. The Dickerson Zoo is also located in Springfield, a short drive north of Branson. Here, your family can spend hours watching the animals frolic and play in beautiful habitats similar to their natural habitat. Altogether, the zoo is home to home than 500 animals representing 170 difference species, including monkeys, reptiles, birds, elephants, big cats, and much more. The zoo is open year-round.

While you're in Springfield, be sure to stop by the Wonders of Wildlife near the Bass Prop Shop. Here you can continue your experience with the animals, viewing more than 225 different species of animals. The habitats are beautiful, with flowing streams, forests, and even a re-created cave. A tour of this family-friendly attraction generally takes about one and a half to two hours. The Wonders of Wildlife is open daily except for Christmas Day. Call ahead to make plans to visit this attraction around shark feedings and other exciting animal events.

About forty minutes northwest of Branson sits the Wild Eye Ranch in Galena, Missouri. At the Wild Eye Ranch, your family can enjoy the real experience of a working ranch. The Wild Eye Ranch gives you several options to choose from, including leisure horse riding, a Day at the Ranch pass that offers fishing and hiking, a hay ride, a breakfast trail ride, a half-day trail ride with lunch, or a chuck wagon steak trail ride. The Wild Eye Ranch will give your family something to remember long after you've returned home from Branson.
