Enter The Butterfly Place and experience the beauty of one of nature's most magical creatures. This Ozark treasure is located at the Welk Champagne Theater and is open seven days a week mid-March through mid-December.
As you enter The Butterfly Place, there is an introductory film, which will familiarize you with what to expect when you enter the actual garden. Most visitor areas are heated and cooled normally. However, the butterfly exhibit itself is maintained at a temperature of 80 degrees, so you will want to dress accordingly. There are several exhibits set up to educate visitors about the life cycles of butterflies and their processes of transformation. Cameras and video cameras are welcome so bring plenty of film!
Butterfly Place Greenhouse
The 9,000 square-foot greenhouse is filled with bushes and flowers which are chosen specifically as a source of nectar for the butterflies. Wide paths lined with flowerbeds and shrubberies, hanging baskets spilling over with foliage, and flowing water features are all designed to support the butterflies and give visitors the ease of access to watch them in a natural environment. At any one time there may be as many as 2,000 butterflies flitting about. They represent over 50 species from around the globe and many butterflies native to the Ozarks are also featured.
Butterfly Place Emergence Room
Another area you will not want to miss is the Emergence Room. An event unto itself, this is where numerous chrysalides of hatching butterflies are housed. You might get to see a butterfly emerge from its cocoon before your very eyes!
Following your visit to the butterflies and the Emergence room make sure to stop by the gift shop where you can purchase butterfly products and educational materials. Your visit to The Butterfly Place will be a memorable trip for all members of the family.
