Dam Site Days at Bull Shoals / Lakeview
The Bulls Shoals Lake is situated amidst the Ozark Mountains of northern Missouri and northern Arkansas. The lake has more than 45,000 acres of surface water to explore and enjoy. Boating, skiing and fishing can be done on the lake. There are around 22 ramps to help launch boats into the lake. The area surrounding the lake has been developed into parks with camping, hiking, hunting and picnicking facilities.
In the backdrop of the lake is the Bull Shoals Dam. The dam had been closed to the public post 9/11. It was recently thrown open to the public. You will need a valid photo ID or passport for the tour.
The dam has eight main generators that can generate enough electricity to light up the entire city of Orlando. Inside the dam, one can hear the rumbles of the generators working to produce electricity. The dam had been build to control the floods from the White river. The tour of the dam takes around 90 minutes and around 12 persons can visit the dam at one time.
The tours can be made on all days of the week except Mondays. The tour commences at 1.30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays; on Wednesdays and Fridays, the tours start at 10 am; on Saturdays the timings are 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. and on Sundays, the tours operate between 11 am and 1:30 p.m. For the benefit of blind people, the tours are held on Thursdays.
