Evangel, just 30 minutes north of Branson, was founded by the General Council of the Assemblies of God in 1953, a time when segregation and racism were flagrant, and Evangel is proud to say they never participated in segregation, and not one person was barred from the school because of color, race, sex, or ethnicity.
They stood true to their theme, "Christ is Lord", through those trying times and never judged anyone based on their appearance. That theme still touches every aspect of campus life, today. Evangel University integrates the Christian faith into the chosen career paths of more than 2,000 students from all 50 states and overseas. This university is a private, coeducational school, and has earned the highest level of accreditation available. Today, they offer more than 80 programs in 10 academic departments.
The Evangel Crusaders are proud to represent this facility in football, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball, golf and track. The school is located on the site of the former O'Reilly General Hospital and both the university at the Assemblies of God headquarters are proud to call Springfield, and the beautiful Ozark Mountains, home. However, not only are they proud to call Springfield home, Springfield is proud to have them as part of the community.
