Located approximately 30 miles north of Branson near Springfield, Missouri, the Frisco Highline Trail offers a spectacular ride for bike enthusiasts, as well as those looking for a new way to experience the Ozarks. The 35-mile trail runs from Springfield north to Buffalo, and follows the path of the former railway that ran up through the mid-19th century.
The trail crosses 16 bridges as its winds through wooded forests and open fields, and rolls through two counties. Horseback riding is also allowed along a 10 mile stretch of the trail. Parking is available at several locations in Springfield, Willard, Bolivar, Walnut Grove, and Wishart.
A lot has happened here since back in 1948, when Harry Truman rode these 36 miles from Springfield to Bolivar and back in his private railroad car, tuning up for the famous “whistlestop” campaign that would get him re-elected President that November.
New trailhead improvements for the Frisco Highline Trail trailhead in Willard Missouri have become the catalysts for a new Christmas holiday light show for the community of Willard.
