As I approached Branson's 230 foot tall Inspiration Tower for the first time, I felt a familiar lump arise in my throat. When I saw the peak of the tower above Branson?s treetops on the way to the park, my stomach twisted its first knot and by the time of our entrance to Inspiration Tower, I was quite sure that my stomach would never untie itself. When my party and I got to the tower, I discovered--and at the same time feared I would hyperventilate--that the elevator to the top of Inspiration Tower was made of glass, giving us a clear view of our ascension. As I approached the top of Inspiration Tower, I feared that my irrational uneasiness with heights would spoil my trip to this well known Branson attraction. However, once I reached the top of Inspiration Tower, I saw vast forests, rolling hills, and hazy horizons as I had never seen them before and strangely, I began to feel much better.
When I saw the beautiful view of Branson from this tower, my fear of heights seemed irrelevant. I had seen southwestern Missouri as I had never seen it before, and I was absolutely amazed. Having been raised among the flat plains and cornfields of northwestern Indiana, I have always been quite taken with Missouri?s hilly, wooded landscape. Seeing this landscape from 230 feet above ground, however, is an experience that may indeed be called inspirational. I went from window to window peering into the horizon at lush, green treetops with the occasional hawk flying over them and even looked out onto Branson with its tiny buildings and roads. I even dared to go onto the observation deck, which is an open air deck. Not only did the air on the deck feel wonderful on a hot Branson day, but the view was even better from the deck. After traveling through Branson to get to Inspiration Tower, this gorgeous view of Branson made me temporarily forget about the city?s glittering lights and busyness. As a writer, I can understand why Harold Bell Wright composed his novel in this area. The peacefulness and beauty is certainly ideal for creativity.
For a great view of Branson and a wonderful escape from busyness and commercialism, I recommend going up to Inspiration Tower and even exploring around Shepherd of the Hills. Even if you are afraid of heights, the view at Inspiration Tower will put you in awe. Who knows? You may even choose to look out the glass elevator on the way down, which I can tell you, really does offer a great descending view. In sum, come out to Inspiration Tower to relax and see the beauty that Branson has to offer when you need a break from the bustle of shows, shopping, and sightseeing.
