About James Taylor
Music legend James Taylor was born March 12, 1948 in Boston, Massachusetts. When he was three, his family moved to North Carolina where he then lived for the rest of his childhood. His entire family was musically-inclined and he began playing the cello at a young age. At age twelve, he picked up his first guitar. Taylor began to develop his own style and played at small venues around his hometown. He struggled with school and college and eventually moved to New York City where he formed a band called The Flying Machine. In New York, he struggled with mental illness and ultimately committed himself to a psychiatric hospital where he worked on his songwriting skills.
After leaving, he moved to London in 1966 where he got his big break and recorded his first album. He has gone on to receive many awards and accomplishments including a Diamond album of his Greatest Hits, inducted into the Hall of Fame for Rock and Roll, and is a five-time Grammy Award winner.
