About Jay Leno
Born in New Rochelle, NY, Jay Leno grew up in Andover, MA where he earned a bachelor's degree in speech therapy from Emerson. He founded a comedy club in 1973, and his comedic career began. His first big break came when he premiered on The Tonight Show in 1977. Going on to take roles in TV and movies like American Hot Wax , episodes of Laverne & Shirley and the leading role in Collision Course, he started making a name for himself in the industry. During this time, he also joined David Letterman on Light Night . He started out subbing in for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show and went on to succeed him in 1992. He served as the host until 2009 and again from 2010 to 2014. After his run on The Tonight Show, he appeared on The Jay Leno Show and began his own stand-up comedy tour full time. He also worked on his brain child, Jay Leno's Garage.

His awards include an Emmy in 1995 for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series; the TV Guide Award for Favorite Late Night Show; the 2006 People's Choice Award for Favorite Late Night Talk Show Host, and an Emmy Award for Outstanding Short-Format Non-Fiction Program for Jay Leno's Garage.
