Country Days in Bolivar is a Great Fall Festival

If you've never been to a Fall Festival, you're missing out on quite a treat! From homemade goodies and great food, to live entertainment and wonderful people, Fall Festivals in the Ozarks are definitely worth visiting. Country Days in Bolivar, MO is one of numerous festivals you can wander around at this Fall.

Country Days wasn't always what we see today. In 1968, the businesses of the Downtown area put together a Customer Appreciation day for the customers and farmers of the area. This only lasted a few years, but was revived in 1974 by Charlie Long and his associates at the Chamber of Commerce under the name Country Days. Over the last 40 years, the festival had evolved and grown, but had died out again. Until Susan Sparks and company brought it back to life once more in 2011, with more variety, music and all around fun than ever before!

With two stages set up on the Bolivar Square, the main stage on Main and Broadway, the other on the intersection of Main and Jackson, there is no shortage of entertainment, whether it be music from local artists, comedy from the One and Only Greg Frisbee and his Rubber Chicken variety show, or the personality and glam of the Little Miss Country Days Pageant. You can also grab a smoked turkey leg, fresh snow cone, or a trusty hamburger to chow down on from one of the many trucks and booths set up along the sides of the streets. The smell in the air was irresistible, and I would have eaten a little bit of everything if I had the room in my tummy.

The shopping around the square was just as amazing! If you were on the hunt for a gift, you would most certainly find it here! While you're walking around, be sure to try Country Days' official drink at the Lemonade stand! They squeeze a fresh lemon into your cup, top it with some ice and fill it with sweet water. It tasted so refreshing and amazing, I went back for a second glass!

Throughout the day, you will catch different and amazing entertainment, such as the Center Stage Dance Academy and their tiny Tinkerbells, pint sized Peter Pan, hip hoppers, ballet, and contemporary dancers from all age groups, dancing to numbers such as "In Summer" from Frozen, and "Shuck" by Purity Ring. I was lucky enough to catch a flash mob led by Zumba instructors in the intersection of Main and Jackson. They performed to three songs, and I almost jumped in and joined the fun myself! My first stop was the Little Miss Country Days Pageant. This pageant is for any Polk County young lady between the ages of 5 and 8 years old. These little girls had me smiling and laughing the entire time with impersonations, silly abilities, and sing-a-longs to their favorite songs. Once interviewed and judged on personality and natural beauty, the new Little Miss Country Days Queen is crowned by the previous Queen, with a Sash, Crown, bouquet, the whole shebang! It took me back to memories of my own Beauty Pageants when I was small.

My absolute favorite performance of the day was Greg Frisbee and his Rubber Chicken show. One of this hobbies is to collect rubber chickens (and to make orange balloon animal poodles). He led a hilarious, fast paced variety show with tricks and humor no matter where you stood to watch him perform. I watched him juggle up to 5 balls at once, blast a rubber chicken from a cannon for a young volunteer to catch, and made another young volunteer a juggling superstar with a couple rubber chickens, a hard hat and a few spinning kick-balls. To top off his juggling prowess and chicken launching abilities, Greg also ate fire! I was not disappointed with his show, whatsoever!

Along with the wide array of entertainment, there are plenty of activities for the kids as well! Tilley the Train escorted children all around the Square, and in Kids Alley, you could participate in crafts and games just for kids! Face painting and RC Car racing are a few other activities the little ones will love!
