The Ozark Empire Fair in Springfield, Missouri
Every year thousands of people gather on the north side of Springfield, about 6 miles from the Springfield Branson Regional Airport (SGF), in the middle of summer, for one huge event. It's become a tradition for Springfieldians and their surrounding neighbors, and this event is the Ozark Empire Fair. It always comes to town around the end of July and continues until early August, so everyone can find a good day to attend. There are rides, some are scary and some are gentle, there are vendors, and of course, games with prizes.
Not all the events at the fair happen outdoors, another large part of the fair is what goes on inside the E*PLEX. The E*PLEX is a newer edition to the fair grounds and it's an 85,000 square foot building that provides space for , lawn and garden shows, arts and crafts shows, over-sized garage sales, and more. The E*PLEX also has an outdoor grandstand with covered seating for 8,000 people. Every year the Ozark Empire Fair brings in a few musical acts or some other form of entertainment, always with free seats available. The bands and artists range from local acts to nationally known stars, from all genres.
Aside from the E*PLEX there is only one other main building, and that's the arena. The arena is where they hold livestock shows, with everything from cows to llamas. There's a petting zoo for kids and even pony rides. The petting zoo isn't the only place you'll be sure to want to take the kids, don't forget the free Kidz Zone where there are free caricature artists, jugglers and fire-eaters, and so much more. At the Ozark Empire Fair, there is never a dull moment for you or the kids.
