About Shepherd of the Hills

The Ozarks mountains are some of the most magnificent views in all of Missouri and Arkansas. Home to sprawling forests and sparkling waters, the area quickly became an inspiration to many creative minds who visited. One such person was Harold Bell Wright, who fell in love with the area so much that he penned a book entitled Shepherd of the Hills inspired by what he saw. With Inspiration Tower and the other attractions at Shepherd of the Hills, guests can see what Harold Bell Wright saw and fell in love with in the early 1900s.

The Inspiration Tower weighs a total of 3 million pounds, cost around $1.5 million dollars to build, contains more than 92,000lbs of steel, and can withstand a consistent wind of 172mph or gusts reaching 224mph! A caravan of 43 concrete trucks filled the structure's foundation, which now contains five miles of rebar weighing 34.5 tons. "Great, great fun."
This was one wonderful family reunion activity that we really enjoyed and had a great time. Brings members closer together, especially when we don’t live close together. Great, great fun.
Tip: Just make sure your “big boys” are within the weight limit. One of ours had to sit it out. Bummer. But the others had a great time.
