Jordan Valley Park, located just minutes north of Branson, is a collective idea from more than 300 Springfield citizens, and is replacing worn out old buildings with wide open spaces. These citizens felt that the park would help to create a sense of place and community. This park has revitalized the downtown area, and has spawned a whole movement to renew Downtown Springfield. This vision by these 300 citizens really struck Springfieldians as a fantastic idea, and voters in every precinct approved a referendum to help pay for the park.
There is a water fountain that empties into a meandering stream, and for outdoor concerts and other shows, the fountain can be turned off, and the top surface becomes a stage. There are trails that wind through the park and the downtown area. These trails are well lit with old-fashioned lamp posts for night strolls, bike rides, or charity events. Of course, within the park is the Jordan Valley Ice Park for hockey games and family skating. This park is a work in progress, and is in the midst of transforming Springfield.
